Demolition Work Begins
As part of ongoing efforts to prepare the property for redevelopment, Canada Land Company has contracted Dexter Construction to remove existing buildings, excluding the Shannon Park School and the former Canex building. Preparation of the site for the demolition work begins as of today, February 8, 2016. Completion of the demolition is anticipated by the end of 2016.
The demolition process will include the controlled removal of hazardous materials from all buildings in advance of the deconstruction of the structures. All work will be undertaken in compliance with applicable regulations, and diversion and reuse of materials will be incorporated where possible. Security, traffic management, pest management and environmental controls and monitoring have all been incorporated into the demolition plan. In addition to the removal of the buildings, existing streets and infrastructure will also be removed to enable the construction of new streets and infrastructure that will meet Halifax Regional Municipality specifications.
This work represents another exciting step towards the comprehensive redevelopment of Shannon Park.
Preferred Concept Almost Ready
As stated at its last public meeting in November, Canada Lands is busily preparing what it calls a ‘preferred concept’ which will be presented at a public meeting this spring. Following the presentation and review of the preferred concept it will be submitted to the Municipality for formal approval. The Canada Lands team has been working hard reviewing feedback and comments received to date in order to develop a plan that will revitalize and reintegrate this key property back into the community. Information about the next public meeting will be available soon.
